A Case for Shopping

"Whoever said that money can't buy happiness simply didn't know where to go shopping."  This fabulous quote has been attributed to two flamboyant American women - playwright and poet, Gertrude Stein and the perfect 10 actress and model, Bo Derek.

No doubt, they’re not the only ones who have felt that whoosh of adrenaline while shopping.

From the got-it-all mall to the hustle and bustle of local marketplaces to the most expensive shopping districts in the world, brand and bargain hunters alike, know the thrill of the “shoppers high”.

The Highs of Travel and Shopping

One of the highlights of travel has to be shopping, in its different shapes and forms. Whether it’s to buy items cheaper or unavailable at home or to interact with the vendors at colourful street stalls and holes in the walls – it’s an essential part of a travel experience.

According to an NBC report, “leisure travelers prefer shopping to sightseeing.”

Why go stare at some big white marble dude named David, when instead you can go shopping for a Fendi sweater?”

Also, "when you buy something in another country or another city, you always have a story to tell about where you got that particular item…” https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna19371904

From Fendi to Fridge Magnets

For most, souvenir hunting is a must on any trip – from key rings and fridge magnets to mugs and sweat shirts. (Who hasn’t given or received a mini Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty Snow-globes, or stuffed Koala Bears at some time in their life?)

For others, travel trinkets are an after-thought or best left in their country of origin. These are the serious shoppers who tick off shopping capitals like groceries. New York. London. Paris. Milan. Hong Kong. Whether it’s for clothing, jewellery, shoes or handbags – they’re incline to shop with a credit card target rather than a budget.

“I’ve spent $40,000 on shoes and I have no place to live?” says ‒ Carrie Bradshaw from ‘Sex And The City.  “I will literally be the old woman who lived in her shoes.” Or, in a nutshell, a bag lady.

You Can’t Have Too Many Bags

Whether it be setting out on a shopping spree with your favourite designer bag or returning with a whole lot of designer shopping bags in hand, it all begins and ends with a bag. So remember, under all shopping circumstances - keep calm and carry a fabulous bag.
