Travel Tips to Help you Unwind

Many of us feel totally exhausted by the non-stop demands of our “always-on” existence. We long to flee from the endless emails, texts, and social media obligations of our work and sometimes our social lives too.

Yet even when we reach our destination paradise, our minds remain stuck in the world of work thinking about what we “should have done” before leaving for our much-needed break and what we’ll “have to do” when we get back. We remain in “always-on” mode and it’s jolly difficult to tell your brains to switch off.

As major supporters of time-out, we’ve gathered some popular tips to help you unwind - before your break is over.

Be Prepared

Make sure any “unfinished business” at work is finished. Let colleagues and clients know you’ll get back to them when you return to civilization. Once you’ve typed your “out-of-office” message – leave the office files and baggage behind and give yourself full permission to get into holiday mode.

Pack Thoughtfully

There are those who believe it’s always easier to travel with a lighter bag. That is to be aware of the type of holiday you are going on and the expected weather, then pack the bare minimum, accordingly.

However, there are those who feel if you love it - pack it. From cosmetic indulgences to a pile of books* you’ve been meaning to read, don’t hold back. Besides your ticket's luggage restrictions, there's no limit to what you can pack in.

We do, suggest, however – you have a suitable case for your packing philosophy. (See below)

Ditch the Devices

As much as you know you need a full technology detox, achieving it is really difficult.

So start by putting time aside, each day, that is screenless. While you may be tempted to check social media and upload a holiday pic or two – remember you’re there to get away from it all, rather than share-it all.

Be Aware of What Relaxes You

Lying on a sun-kissed beach, and sipping cocktails is not for everyone. It’s often easier to wind down when you immerse yourself in an activity. Whether it be diving or yoga lessons, art or culinary class, keep your mind from wandering by focusing on an activity that requires your mental and physical energy.

Choose a Great Travel Partner

We all know how an unsuitable or unreliable travel partner can destroy even the most beautiful holiday destinations. So make sure to choose wisely to minimize stress and maximize your vacation pleasure.
